Lost and found Balti Land in 1971
(TRIP - SEP-18)
(TRIP - SEP-18)
Pakistan has captured Gilgit and Baltistan from India and the land is called Pakistan Occupied Kashmir - POK. In 1971 during Indo-Pak war, not only Bangladesh was liberated but POK was regained by Indian army as well. Under UN pressure, POK was returned but Turtuk became part of India.
Shayok River nourishes the land and it provides sufficient water for farming. Trek to Masjid located uphill provides beautiful views.
There are some good food joints. Balti kitchen ranks one and Friends Cafe with amazing view for River takes second spot.
Although Turtuk is still not hot tourist destination, visit of few tourist has also left footprints of Plastic pollution.
There are daily bus at 2:30PM from Diskit to Turtuk. (May b not on Sunday)
Return bus starts from Turtuk at 6:30 AM from Turtuk towards Diskit.
I discussed with few locals and they had below requirements from Indian government.
View point is another place on slightly lower height and provides peaceful place to sit even to local population.
